Born in Singapore, raised in Hong Kong, Vina moved to California with her family when she was 11. She has a degree in physics from the University of California, San Diego. It was while pursuing a PhD in nuclear engineering at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor that she discovered her love for cooking. So it was no surprise when she traded in her lab coat for a chef's jacket and became a caterer at 26 years old.
